Simple, Elegant, Fine and Sterling Silver Jewellery
Hello, my name is Gemma and welcome to my website! Hope you enjoy looking at the jewellery I have created. Do message me if you have any questions.
A bit about me...
I live in a lovely village just outside of Romsey in the South East of England with my hubby and young son. Jewellery making has always been part of my life. I remember making brooches using fimo clay whilst at school, then turning to beaded jewellery, before venturing into traditional silver smithing jewellery at an evening class. But then, life took over and my hobby fell away. After my little boy was born I re-discovered my love of jewellery making - firstly in the form of silver clay and then a return to traditional silver smithing.
What I create with...
Silver clay consists of microscopic particles of silver suspended in an organic binder to create a material with a similar consistency to that of modelling clay. It can be textured, moulded, sculpted and shaped. When heated to high temperatures, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse together to form silver. Its magic!
Fine Silver is the purest form of silver, and the one I largely use. Its 999 parts silver out of 1000. Sterling Silver comes in sheet and wire form. It can also be textured, formed and shaped. It is a mixture of silver and copper - 925 parts silver out of 1000, with the remaining 75 parts being copper.
The silver I use, in both forms are largely recycled and I try to limit my plastic use in my packaging as well to ensure the environmental impact of me and my jewellery is as small as possible.
I've recently learnt the art of enamelling and I absolutely love the results it gives.
Qualification...
I've diplomas in silver clay, am part of an online learning community in silver clay, and also take a weekly class in silver smithing techniques. Like all craft, there is always more to learn (and more tools to buy!)
My jewellery inspiration
My inspiration is very much about comfort, simplicity and elegance. I design and make what makes me happy.
Yep - hares! I love them, and we are lucky enough to be treated to them visiting our garden - I'm always inspired to incorporate them in my jewellery.
Thank you for visiting! Gemma
